Shetty A. Adieu to the best teacher we ever had. Indian J Pathol Microbiol 2022;65:515
A teacher affects eternity. No one can ever tell where his influence stops. This poem is dedicated to our Professor and HOD Pathology Dr. (Late) Col. Nikhil Moorchung who succumbed to COVID-19 in May 2020.
In a new medical college coming up with mud and bricks;
We had joined as pathologists taking major carrier risks.
The place was a little remote and everything was new;
We had to excel in our work is all we knew.
Soon came a day which we will forever remember;
Joining us, was our professor in the month of September.
Casual, friendly, and always speaking loud;
Immense knowledge made him stand apart from the crowd.
Slide discussions with him were always brainstorming;
With totally quirky findings he got our neurons roaring.
Innovative teaching methods he would always insist us to design;
With a sole vision to make pathology interesting down the line.
Multitalented person with a charming personality;
Periodicals and newspapers would swear by his excellent vocabulary.
His passion for carpentry with teakwood would never fade;
Handmade chairs, tables, and racks at his home were displayed.
Exceedingly humble, awfully sweet, and an epitome of knowledge;
Much loved and admired among all; I must acknowledge.
From bioinformatics to molecular path, he was adept;
Having mastered the subject from fundamentals to depth.
And then, out of blue, came a day that took him far away;
Never to see him again or hear him say.
The wonderful days we spent with him is a lifetime of treasure;
Sir, you will be remembered and missed beyond measure!!
