20th Anniversary of Give Kids a Smile

February is National Children’s Dental Health Month. All month long, dental professionals, healthcare providers, and educators will come together to promote the benefits of good oral health. A highlight of the month is Give Kids a Smile Day, when thousands of dentists across the country partner with the American Dental Association (ADA) to provide free dental treatment to underserved children in their communities.

This year is the 20th anniversary of Give Kids a Smile! More than 7 million kids have received dental care in the past two decades through this initiative. As part of our ongoing efforts to give back, several children received much needed dental care at Alameda Pediatric Dentistry this month. We are proud to say that nearly $25,000 of dentistry was completed at no cost to our patient families!

“Each year we look forward to this event because it helps shine a light on the importance of good oral health at a young age. As pediatric dental providers, we see first-hand how dental disease affects young people’s lives well into adulthood, and how much difference prevention and early care can make,” explains Dr. MyLinh Ngo.

We know a single day won’t solve the problem of untreated dental disease. Throughout the year, we host “Tooth Fairy Island”, visiting neighborhood schools to distribute free toothbrushes, toothpaste, and floss, and to increase oral health awareness and enthusiasm along the way.
